Inspired by such aspects as national myths, the dumbing down of society and the technological displacement of human knowledge and skill, I recycle histories and visual narratives creating distorted historical events and satirical visions of the past. These new historical works fit to a new purpose where heritage is manipulated, distorted and corrupted into a contemporary world where people use history as propaganda and claim heritage for their own needs. Here imagined dislocated societies, by recreating a lost cultural heritage, warped historical iconography of power, religion and nationhood become imbued with strange ancient-like mysticism and sacred symbolism. As a satirical critique of contemporary culture in which identity is so important, the work often reflects on the myths of tradition, human nature of belonging and the process of painting itself that draws on the whole history of visual imagery.
